Late Justice Mahadev Dovind Ranade, once said "Redemption of India must come through women", Inspired by his ideals, Smt. Rambai Ranade started the movement for the upliftment of women by starting "The Poona Sevasadan Society" at Pune in the year 1909 with the help and co-operation of like minded persons like Prof. G. Deodhar, and Shri G.B. Garud, and others, Existence of Seva Sadan, Nagpur, as it is today could not have been possible but for inspiration given by Smt. Rambai Ranade and stimulus given by personalities like Shri G.B. Garud and Col. K.V. Kukade and others. Hon. Shri S.B. Tambe, the then home member of the Govt. of C.P. and Berar, Inaugurated "The Poona Sevasadan Society, Nagpur Br." On 2nd January 1927. The Society started functioning in the rented premises of Shri K.G. Vaidya in Dhantoli at Nagpur. The society was fortunate the have prominent and generous luminaries of the city as its founder members. The first advisory committee as formed under the chairmanship of Sir Shankarrao Chitnvis with Shri B.V. Buty as vice Chairman and Shri W.R. Puanik as its Secretary. Co. Sir K.V. Kukade and Shri M.B. niyogie were the honorary members of the Committee. The Poona Sevasadan Society, Pune, nominated Shri G.B. Gaud; Shri G.K. Deodhar and Mrs. Janakibai Bhatt as their representatives on the Nagpur Branch.
The society started a Hostel-Cum-Training school for women in Vaidya-wadi from 2nd Jan. 2007, with just four women as students. Soon, activities of the society increased and it started classes for teaching English to those women candidates who opted for "Mid-wifery course" to start it as their profession. read more..
